The problem of suffering – in fiction

So I’ve been wrestling with the problem of suffering lately, as you may have noticed, and I thought it might be helpful to illustrate a specific concept through a piece of fiction. A lot of people are not satisfied with the world as it presently is, but what would they like to see changed? Would it really pan out for the better?
